Orchard will sell you a candle. The west will sell you a wardrobe. Home, furniture and outlet malls are the part of Singapore retail that does not care about your holiday photographs. If you live here, this is the useful map. If you are visiting, it is the page that stops you checking in a dining table.
IMM first
IMM is the default for markdown homeware: crockery, storage, the slightly imperfect appliance, smaller furniture you can taxi if you must. It is not IKEA and it is not a design gallery. Go with measurements. The Jurong East cluster lets you eat and recover in JEM or Westgate afterward.
Weekend trolleys are a contact sport.
IKEA and the big boxes
IKEA Tampines and the other IKEA rooms are their own pilgrimage — not “a mall” in the Malls SG directory sense, still a day. Courts and the electronics-and-furniture sheds do white goods and sofas. They sit on the same mental map as IMM even when they do not share a podium.
Bring the lift measurements of your HDB. This sentence has saved marriages.
Department-store home floors
Takashimaya at Ngee Ann City is the city way to buy a better rice cooker and feel civilised. Robinsons is a memory; what remains of department-store home in the city is thinner than it was. Heartland malls carry the everyday brands at everyday prices.
What visitors should not do
A full homeware day on a 32-inch suitcase itinerary. Shipping exists and has a cost that eats the “bargain”. Buy the compact item. Photograph the rest for later.
Delivery, GST, the boring win
Delivery windows in Singapore are tight and real. Outlet stock can be final sale. Keep receipts. If you are a tourist chasing GST refunds, bulky homeware is a paperwork hobby.
Pairing with a normal mall day
Do not mix a sofa hunt with ION. Mix it with Jurong, Tampines, or a dedicated Saturday. Your attention only holds one cubic metre of furniture at a time.
If you write us a guest guide to a specific homeware floor, bring prices and a tape measure, not a mood board. Guidelines.
Measure twice, take the lift numbers
HDB and condo lifts have personalities. A sofa that fits the showroom has no obligation to fit your landing. Write the measurements in the phone, not in a conversation you will misremember at IMM. Height, width, turning circle. The staff have seen your optimism before. They will still let you buy it.
Secondhand, online, the rest of the market
This is a mall site. The rest of the home market — secondhand groups, online marketplaces, independent workshops — exists and may be cheaper or better. Use IMM for the new markdown and the thing you want a warranty on. Use the rest of the internet for the chair someone else already assembled badly.
Delivery days are part of the purchase
A cheap table with a four-week delivery window is not cheap if you eat on the floor. Ask. Night deliveries, stair carries, disposal of the old piece — these are line items. Outlet stock can be as-is. As-is means you have looked at it in the light, not on a phone.
Visitors, again
Ship or skip. A rattan basket that fits under the seat is a souvenir. A dining set is a project. We like projects at home. We like you to catch the flight.
Small-space shopping, which is most of us
Singapore homes are not showrooms. Shop the thing that does two jobs. Avoid the outline of a sofa that requires a room you do not have. IMM’s smaller pieces and the department-store household floors are more honest than a warehouse that assumes a landed staircase. If a staff member starts designing your whole living room, smile, take the tape measure back, and go eat.
When a mall homeware floor is enough
A kettle, a fan, a set of shelves, school-term storage — town malls and IMM. A wedding list — maybe Takashimaya, maybe a specialist, not a Saturday IMM with a headache. An office for a flat that is also a bedroom — measure, then IMM or IKEA, not Orchard.
Homeware checklist
- Write lift measurements before you leave the flat.
- IMM for markdown household; IKEA and Courts for the big runs.
- Takashimaya when you want a civilised kettle.
- Delivery windows are part of the price.
- Outlet can mean as-is — look in the light.
- Visitors: ship or skip; a dining table is not a souvenir.
- Do not mix a sofa hunt with ION.
- A cheap table that arrives in four weeks is a floor picnic.
Home retail is the unglamorous half of Malls SG and the half that changes a flat. Measure, eat, then buy. The showroom will always be larger than your lift. The staff have seen your optimism. Take it as kindness, take the tape measure back, and only then take the trolley.
How this page will age
IKEA will tweak a store. IMM will rotate homeware brands. A department-store home floor will thin or thicken. Your lift will stay the same size. That is why measurements outlast tenant maps. Update the shop names when you must; keep the tape measure as the permanent paragraph. If a new outlet cluster opens in the far west or east, it will still need the same humility: delivery windows, as-is stock, and a trolley that fits the landing you actually have.
A last household note, because this is where people overspend: the object that ‘completes the room’ rarely completes the room. It completes a mood. Sleep on it, measure again, and only then return to IMM or the department-store floor. Singapore flats forgive a missing vase. They do not forgive a sofa that cannot turn the landing. If you are still unsure, buy the lamp. The lamp fits in a taxi and in a life.
Measure twice. Buy once. Take the train if the object fits on a lap.
Frequently asked questions
- Is IMM good for furniture?
- IMM is strong on homeware, smaller furniture and markdown household. Large sofas and full kitchen runs still sit with IKEA, Courts and specialist stores.
- Which malls in Singapore sell IKEA-style home goods?
- IKEA has its own stores (not malls in the Orchard sense). IMM, department-store home floors (Takashimaya) and heartland housewares tenants cover the rest of the budget range.
